Center for Social Innovation

On this journey, you will build your knowledge of social entrepreneurship through the lens of Kenya's rural and urban communities, people, and small businesses. As you meet with engaging social entrepreneurs, you will begin to understand the role of social entrepreneurship in building the country economically and socially. Finally, you will design and conduct financial literacy training to help aspiring entrepreneurs achieve their business goals.

Trip highlights

• Explore models of collaboration, project financing and product/service development utilized by local and national government and NGOs
• Meet with world–renowned social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and businesses to develop a deeper understanding of how local and global initiatives support economic development
• Work alongside PMP and GSB partners to build business-owner skills in a rural village using the Barefoot MBA, a tool inspired by a past Service Learning Trip

What did we learn during past trips?

March 2006 In March 2006, a Service Learning Trip to Kenya and Uganda explored microfinance and small business enterprise in rural Kenya and Uganda. Accompanied by Garth Saloner, Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the team met with Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi and social enterprise KickStart, among others.
