Microfinance has been championed on the domestic front by Eric Weaver, MBA ’92, founder and CEO of Opportunity Fund. Opportunity Fund is now a successful social enterprise with a $7M operating budget — funded equally through earned and contributed income sources. Eric received the inaugural James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award for his innovative approach to eliminating poverty in California. In his tenure leading Opportunity Fund, Eric has testified before the State Assembly on community investment policies and traveled (home) to Washington D.C. during the Great Recession to meet with Treasury Secretary Geithner on effective small business financing models.
At the CSI/PMP 40th Anniversary Celebration in October 2011, Eric shared lessons learned through his work to deploy over $200 million into California’s communities to create jobs and strengthen local economies.
