In Morocco, one corporate citizenship effort is addressing the country's educational challenges. In this audio interview, host Sheela Sethuraman talks to Mohammed Abbad Andaloussi of Al Jisr about his success involving businesses in schools in Morocco., where only 13 percent of students graduate and more than 400,000 drop out each year. He talks about companies' work to help schools not by funding them but by "adopting" them, providing technical resources, volunteers, administrative assistance, and a business perspective.
Mohammed Abbad Andaloussi improves the Moroccan education system through partnerships with the private sector. A former businessman, Andaloussi links businesses to schools both as financial sponsors and as advisors on school management, services, and market-relevant education, teaching students to see the connection between continued education and professional success. He has created such partnerships for 110 public schools in marginalized areas of Casablanca, with plans to reach 1,000 schools throughout Morocco within the next five years.
